The iBlog2 Summit on Problogging was an eye-opener for me. Being just a 5-day old blogger, little that I know that one can be a professional blogger or a problogger in blogspeak. Abe wowed me with figures like P85,000 per month earnings from ads alone. But more than the potential earnings, it was impressive to note that ProBlogging is a serious profession and just like any profession, if one puts his/her time, effort, talent, strategic thinking, etc., one can reap the fruits - monetary as well as self-actualization.
Taking it from the experts, ProBlogging is both an art and a science. To share with you how blogging has become an active and exciting profession in the Philippines, here are some of the highlights of the topics talked about during iBlog2 Summit's Track 5.
Topic 1: Problogging - Professional Blogging and Blog Monetization by Abe Olandres
Abe talked about the different types of probloggers - traditional, corporate (employed to blog for the company he/she works for), career (writes for blog networks), celebrity, and blog network owners. Of course, all eyes and ears were open as he discusssed advertising rates and other various means to maximize revenue streams from your blog. Attendees were inspired as they hear Abe talk about the success stories of top Pinoy bloggers.
Topic 2: Blogging as a Profession by J Angelo Racoma
J Angelo seems to me like a classic blogger. His presentation was like a live blog. There was so much to pick up from his "Lessons in blogging" especially for those who are starting to look into blogging as a full-time career. Bottomline is, if you put your heart, mind and soul into it, the whole universe (at least the internet universe) will conspire for you to reach your goal to be one of the top bloggers of the world (why not, di ba?).
Topic 3: Blogging, Branding and Google by Marc Macalua
Marc outlined the important elements of a successful blog. For a newbie like me, these are very helpful tips to maximize the potentials of a blog through SEO. Thanks, Marc, for sharing the Bonus SEO Tool. You have to go to Marc's site to know what it is ;-)
Topic 4: Tracking Blog Performance by Charo Nuguid
If you are going to be serious about problogging, this topic is very important. As they say in my former world (product management) - you cannot manage what you cannot measure. If you are serious about making money out of your blog, Charo's talk was really loaded with lots of tips on what tools to use for you to monitor your blog's performance. I am only familiar with Performancing.com (as introduced to me by Janette Toral), and with Charo's inputs, it feels comforting that there are a lot of tools out there to help a blogger make a blog performance analysis.
All in all, the event proved to be an exciting learning experience for me. I would like to congratulate the iBlog2 Summit Team for making this event a success particularly in terms of attendance and content. I look forward to attending the 3rd iBlog Summit - whew, tuloy-tuloy na ito ;)

Hi. Glad to be of help. I hope our stories can serve as inspiration to other people who want to try out problogging. It's a potentially financially-rewarding activity if you get the right opportunities and if you work things well.
